🇧🇪 Exalate

Cloud cost optimization

Background

Exalate, a Belgian SaaS company, ran its platform on Google Cloud, with tooling tightly coupled to proprietary Google Cloud APIs. As its Google Cloud contract approached renewal in late 2023, Exalate worked with whitesky to move to a hybrid model and then to a dedicated private cloud.

What the “>50% cost savings” measures

The figure is a reduction of more than 50% in Exalate’s cloud platform expenses, comparing its prior Google Cloud spend with the cost of running the same workloads on a whitesky-hosted private cloud (with Google Cloud retained for variable workloads). The migration steps, infrastructure choices, and timeline are documented in the case study.

  • Migration: Google Cloud → whitesky, re-platforming onto SUSE Rancher Kubernetes so workloads stay portable across any cluster.
  • Outcome: lower, predictable infrastructure cost; greater control; S3-based backup and disaster recovery.

Full details, including the migration phases and a video walkthrough, are in the case study: Exalate Achieves Over 50% Reduction in Cloud Costs.
