Objectspaces
Scalable, S3-compatible object storage with versioning and object locking
Objectspaces
In short: Objectspaces is whitesky’s S3-compatible object storage service that scales to 360PB in a single deployment. It provides broad S3 API compatibility with bucket-level access keys, object versioning, and WORM compliance for backups, archives, and cloud-native applications.
Objectspaces provide enterprise-grade, S3-compatible object storage designed to store, protect, and serve unstructured data at scale. Whether you’re backing up virtual machines, hosting static websites, or integrating with cloud-native applications, Objectspaces work with existing S3 tools and workflows. A single deployment scales to 360PB — see how that figure is derived — giving you the performance and flexibility to grow with your business.
Core Features
Location-Based Deployment
- Bound to a cloud location for optimal performance and data sovereignty
- Ensures your data stays exactly where you need it for compliance and latency requirements
Massive Scalability
- Scale to 360 PB in a single deployment (see derivation below)
- Start small and grow as your storage needs expand
- No need to worry about capacity planning or storage migrations
How Objectspaces scales to 360PB
The 360PB figure is not a theoretical maximum — it follows directly from the platform’s storage-block architecture. A reference build looks like this:
- One rack holds 9× 4U storage servers, each with 90× 24TB HDDs.
- That rack is organised into 6 local object-storage backends of 2.4PB net capacity each (net of erasure-coding overhead).
- A global backend front-ends and load-balances data across many local backends, presenting them as one logical S3 endpoint.
- Combining 25 such racks yields 150 local backends × 2.4PB = 360PB of net, usable capacity in a single deployment.
Because capacity scales linearly with the local backends, the limit moves with drive density. With 30TB HDDs now available, the same topology reaches roughly 457PB without any architectural change. Smaller deployments simply use fewer backends — you start with what you need and add capacity by adding blocks.

S3 Compatibility
Broad API compatibility
Objectspaces speak the S3 API, so they integrate with tools and applications that already target S3:
- AWS CLI and SDKs for familiar tooling
- Third-party backup solutions like Veeam, Acronis, and others
- Cloud-native applications built for S3 storage
- Data analytics tools like Apache Spark, Hadoop, and more
Supported S3 operations
Compatibility covers the operations that the great majority of S3 workloads rely on:
- Bucket operations — create, list, delete, and configure buckets
- Object operations — PUT, GET, HEAD, DELETE, and listing of objects
- Multipart uploads — for large objects and resumable transfers
- Object versioning — keep and retrieve previous versions of an object
- Object lock / WORM — write-once-read-many retention for compliance
- Lifecycle policies — automated expiration and transition rules
- Presigned URLs — time-limited, credential-free access to objects
- CORS — cross-origin access for web applications
- Access-key model — admin keys plus bucket-level read-only / write-only / read-write keys
If your workload depends on a less common S3 feature, confirm coverage against this list rather than assuming byte-for-byte parity with AWS S3.
Integration Benefits
Seamless Platform Integration
